My Approach
My therapeutic approach is grounded in principles of Experiential Dynamic Therapy, specifically Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP), though I do draw from other experiential approaches such as Internal Family Systems (IFS), Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), and Coherence Therapy as needed. However, I believe it is more important and relevant to emphasize that the therapy I offer is individually tailored to each patient and is thus unique to each patient.
Because each therapy is unique, we cannot be certain ahead of time what exactly yours will look and feel like with me. How I work with you will also inevitably evolve as I get to know you better. While some people decide to work with me after a free 15-minute phone consultation, others prefer to meet at least once or even several times before committing to the therapy with me. This exploration process is something I fully support and consider vital to establishing trust.
Despite how unique each therapy is, I will endeavor to always:
-
shape the therapy to be responsive to your specific needs, goals, questions, personality, background, and life history
-
track, elicit, and incorporate your feedback about the process, a vital ingredient in the therapeutic endeavor
-
remain curious about what is happening in your mind, your life, and between us, and use this information to tailor my interventions
-
foster a shared understanding of your internal world and how you have come to be you
-
share my thoughts, observations, and reactions with honesty, compassion, and tact
-
cocreate growth-promoting experiences, rather than just offering explanations or suggestions
-
assist you in navigating the at times uncomfortable experiences of deeper change and growth
-
work in a way that fully leverages your strengths and capacities (i.e., work within your growth edge) so that you can achieve your goals in as timely a manner as possible
