Individual Therapy
Each of us aims to move through and make some sense of this experience we call life. Along the way, we encounter inevitable hardship and loss. In response, we often unconsciously make adaptations to find relief and adopt ideas that help us to make sense of our experience. While these adaptations and ideas spare us more immediate pain, they often pave the way for longer-term suffering and confusion. In other words, while overwhelming winds might prompt us to trim our sails to avoid capsizing, this trimming also hamstrings our ability to navigate life.
In individual therapy, I will help you identify the unconscious adaptations and ideas driving your suffering. But an explanation alone is not enough. To achieve relief and make life more navigable, we must learn to face that which has been difficult to face, and experience that which has been difficult to experience. This process involves transcending the internal limitations we have set for ourselves, but also grappling with and accepting the real limitations of life.
I believe that within each of us is a force that strives for health and transformation. Allying with that part of you, I will help you embrace a more complex experience of yourself. In doing so, you will become more open to the possibilities of love, joy, and play that life can offer.
