  • 4050 N Lincoln Ave, Chicago IL 60618

My office is located in North Center and is accessible from most Northside neighborhoods: Andersonville, Irving Park, Edgewater, Ravenswood, Uptown, Lincoln Square, Bucktown, Lincoln Park, Wicker Park, Logan Square, Rogers Park, Evanston, etc.

  • I work with individuals ages 16 and older and couples (including polycules) with a wide range of presenting difficulties in Chicago, IL (and other areas of Illinois if virtual). Click here to learn more about who I help.

  • My therapeutic approach is grounded in principles of Experiential Dynamic Therapy, specifically Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP), an evidence-based approach which I have studied extensively. I also draw from other experiential approaches such as Internal Family Systems (IFS), Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), and Coherence Therapy as needed. More importantly, the treatment I offer is individually tailored to each patient. Thus, because each patient is unique, each therapy is also unique. Click here to learn more about my approach.

  • Yes, there is substantial outcome data and research to support Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy's (ISTDP) efficacy for a wide range of difficulties.

  • I have extensive training in Integrative Psychodynamic and Experiential Dynamic Therapy, more specifically Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP). Click here to learn more about my training.

  • If you plan to use insurance, I will be required to provide an ICD-10 diagnosis code. It’s important to understand however that the ICD-10 and DSM-5 are more sociocultural artifacts than they are robust and valid psychodiagnostic tools. They were designed to reliably sort patients into groups that seem similar in terms of apparent symptomology and they often fail to adequately describe a person’s inner dynamics and life experience.

My approach to diagnosis extends well beyond a cursory identification of symptoms and includes an in-depth exploration of your internal psychological dynamics and how they interact with your environmental, contextual, and physical realities.

  • Most people will start to meet with me at a once-per-week frequency. However, depending on your needs and circumstances, we may choose initially or over time to meet more or less frequently. What feels best for you is something we can explore together.

  • Unfortunately, there is no way for us to be certain ahead of time whether I’m the right therapist for you. However, I do offer a free 15-minute phone consultation and, typically, an extended initial therapy session to help us better answer that question.

The questions of whether I’m the right therapist for you and whether our relationship is adequately helping you will be continuously explored between us during your therapy experience. Your feedback is essential for me to tailor my approach appropriately. Click here to learn more about my approach, and here to learn more about who I help.

  • No single term in my view adequately captures the position that an individual seeking therapy adopts. The terms patient, client, and therapist for that matter, all have problematic histories. For me however, patient seems to be the lesser of evils compared to client.

The etymology of patient is “one who suffers” and seems more consistent with the context of therapy being a shared, collaborative endeavor between or among human beings to explore one’s inner experience. Client on the other hand, refers simply to “one who pays,” and in my view fails to speak to the significance of entering a therapeutic relationship.

  • Contact me to ask any questions you may have and/or schedule a free 15-minute phone consultation.
